There are two publically voted awards efforts currently ongoing: one which is for anyone who loves comics and has a pulse (The Tripwire Awards), and one which is those who love comics and is voted on by those that, well, actually work in the comics industry, The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards.
The Ringos, as they’re more commonly known, return as part of the hugely popular Baltimore Comic-Con which runs over the weekend of Friday 28th-Sunday 30th October at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland – the results of the polling will be announced at a special ceremony on Saturday.
This year’s nominees – gathered from submissions by comics fans and a professional jury – are your usual fine, eclectic selection, as is the mark of the Ringos and 2022, in particular, has a number of names that come up a lot in the various categories, including BOOM! Studios that have two titles in the Best Series category and three in Best Single Issue/Story (no BRZRKR, oddly enough), Jeff Lemire who is in the running for Best Cartoonist (Writer/Artist), Best Writer and Best Cover Artist, and WEBTOON who dominates the Best Webcomic category.
Voting is open now and closes on Wednesday 28th September, only three short weeks away. If you’re a comic pro, now’s the time to get in your votes HERE and tie your flag to the mast – if you’re not a comics pro, you can always cheer from the sidelines when the winners are announced at Baltimore Comic-Con. Bring virtual popcorn.
