Cleaner is a interesting movie because it came out of nowhere. So when I came in on Thursday and saw a brand new movie playing only at my local theater I decided to give it a chance, and I’m glad I did because I had a good time.
The general synopsis of the movie is Joey Locke (Daisy Ridley) is a window cleaner when suddenly the building she works in gets taken over by a group of activists that want to make the world a better place, and they take high profile people hostage so they can make them confess on camera about their crimes. So it’s up to Miss Ridley to save the world.
This movie does a great job of being realistic and not being over the top. I thought it was going to be like one of those Jason Statham mechanic movies or like Die Hard but instead it it was more like a family drama movie.
Joey gets stuck on one of those window washing hangers and spends 1/3 of the movie trying to break the window to get in. And I’m not doubting those windows are probably hard to break, I’ve never tried to break one of those windows but watching somebody do it for like half hour, does not make for an entertaining movie experience. Don’t get me wrong there’s plenty of action and excitement in the movie it’s just too far between.
In conclusion if you want to watch a more realistic version of Die Hard or just love Daisy Ridley, I would say go ahead, but if you need constant action to be entertained I would skip it. I’m all for realism but I also believe a movie needs to be entertaining and there needs to be a fine line.
Leo’s rating: B.
