A new crime series from acclaimed writer Ed Brisson of The Violent and the talented artist CP Smith of The Resistance. Now he’s on the run with precious cargo while SWAT and the police are hot on his trail.
There is no shortage of crime based dramas or stories today and that’s a wonderful thing because it’s a theme that can be used in so many creative and interesting ways. It also typically tells a story that is based in our real world which makes it much more accessible to the average reader. Based on his earlier works Brisson has always had a knack for crime noir stories. One of the first books he ever wrote was a self published crime series called Murder Book. (Which is also worth a read if you are not familiar!) He has a way of setting the tone early with a careful pacing that brings the story to life and builds up the anxiety as you move forward. It’s a classically scripted crime caper and you’re pulled into this world almost instantly. The main characters are brothers and this adds another layer to the story as well. You instantly feel more attached to them on a personal level given the family connection. Brisson also delivers a twist at the end that really separates this title from the usual crime fare. It’s a fantastically written first issue that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The colors and art are exceptional as well. Each panel works to extend the story with vibrant color and detail. The action is explosive and visceral. It’s really a perfect match for the story that’s being told. It’s a great package and one totally worth checking out!
