Tactical card combat game DECK OF ASHES now available on Steam Early Access

Earlier this month DECK OF ASHES from AYGames launched on Steam Early Access, and I was given a review copy.

I’ve played a lot of games that are card based including Blizzard Entertainment’s HEARTHSTONE, VALIANT HEROES, BATTLE OF THE VALIANT UNIVERSE, ETERNAL from Dire Wolf Digital, DUELYST from Counterplay Games and BANDAI NAMCO, and many more. So when the opportunity to review a new card based game was given to me, I was more then happy to try it out, and give my thoughts.

The game combines an adventure game with tactical card combat, which I quite enjoyed. The goal of the game is to lead your heroes (anti-heroes?) on a quest for redemption.

The game lets you craft a deck of cards, as well as upgrading the ones you get while exploring the world that was crafted.

The game play itself is pretty straight forward, as you battle other enemies with various card spells, until their HP hits zero (or if you’re not lucky yours does). There are also healing spells / cards, but you only have a certain number of cards in your hand at once.

Each spell / card has a certain cost to use it, and you start each turn with 5 mana to use, so some thought his required to get the most out of each turn.

After each battle you’re given a certain number of points which you can spend to either bring back cards that you used in your battle, or to renew your health back to 100%.

I played the game for a few hours, and thoroughly enjoyed the story that AYGames developed, and can’t wait to see how they expand the world that they have created.

If you want to check out the game, they are doing a special timed event titled COSPLAY OF THRONES. The event began on April 20th and is running for just 2 weeks, so go and check it out!
