The Doctor is BACK! (and I’m ecstatic!)

As soon as I heard that Doctor Who would be coming out with a special and not just any type of special episode, but one with David Tennant!? I was all in. He was a favorite of mine, not my first doctor, which was Eccleston, but a doctor I have loved to watch and rewatch all his episodes.

See I have a whole other fandom I can be into other than One Piece. Anyway, I have been watching Doctor Who since I was in high school when a friend of mine demanded I watch it with her. Ever since then I have been a lifelong fan, even have a few doctor dresses that portray some of my favorite doctors and of course Tardis socks like a true Whovian.

I did fall off in the last two seasons of Doctor Who, I lost the BBC channel and it would take forever to be posted to the streaming sites (which also switch around a lot). But, I also didn’t love the writing for the show that much anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I am so happy that The Doctor finally got to be a woman, but none of her episodes made me want to rewatch the first two seasons of her time ( had the same problem with the three seasons before her with the twelfth doctor too). I am just now starting on her third season as The Doctor to see how the storyline goes and to be ready for the upcoming doctor later this month.

Anyway, I was super happy to hear that David Tennant would be coming back for the special right before the Christmas special, when the new doctor would take the stage. But, also hearing that Catherine Tate would be coming back as DONNA NOBLE!!!!!! I lost my ever loving mind. I absolutely adore her season and have watched those episodes thousands of times over the years, and they still make me cry!

Having both The Doctor and Donna back had me sitting down these past three Saturdays to watch their newest specials, and it was a dream come true. Just this last Saturday was the final one and I knew, knew, deep in my bones, that it was going to be a tear jerker, as most of Ten’s endings were. I was not disappointed at all, and I already want to watch all three specials again. Along with their original season, heck I just want to start at Ten’s first season and rewatch the whole show again! But, there was just something absolutely special about these specials that just got to me, and it was the writing. They had brought back Russell T. Davies went back to write for these two, he really brought the heart and soul back to these characters.

I have to say bringing in the Toy Maker was great, I loved hearing bits and pieces of his lore and honestly…? He was a bit terrifying, even with Spice Girls blaring. Now a favorite of my villains to watch interacting with the Doctor, he also gave us lots of hints for The Doctor to come along next. I’m excited to see all the villains and adventures he’ll face in his run as the 15th doctor!

If you haven’t watched Doctor Who yet, you can watch most of the episodes on HBO MAX (for some reason the specials for each season are not on there). But, if you’re like me and are getting back into the show or keeping up with it, these three new specials with the Tenth doctor and Donna Noble are now streaming on Disney+! Plus the newest Christmas special will be out, of course on Christmas day!
