THE MADNESS #1 Review – Wild start to a great and potentially wild premise (Straczynski, ACO, Maiolo, Lorenzo, Cipriano) AWA Studios

Writer: J. Michael Straczynski
Artist: ACO
Colorist: Marcelo Maiolo
Inker: David Lorenzo
Letterer: Sal Cipriano

Thanks to AWA Studios for the review copy!

A new action/drama series from prolific writer J. Michael Straczynski and acclaimed artist ACO. When a super-powered thief steals from the wrong person she becomes the target of the US Government and a hired super powered mercenary. Later, a plan devised to take her out leaves her family dead and unleashes a side of her hell bent on revenge and destruction.

This was a wild start to a great and potentially wild premise. It’s a simple, straight-forward and action packed heist from the first few pages but it develops into something much more psychological and devastating as we reach the end of the issue. Straczynski weaves a tight and compelling narrative around some fantastic art by ACO. Maiolo and Cipriano also do an excellent job handling the lettering and coloring duties. The colors are vibrant and pop on the page. The lettering alone adds another level to the wild action and tension in this book. I love the way the panels are set up and how everything flows in generally one direction from page to page. It literally plays out like one long action sequence in your mind. It’s a race to the climactic twist but you’ll be all pumped up when you get there. The whole story really doesn’t let up all the way to the end and it will leave you shaking for sure! It’s hard to believe we just witnessed what we did and that this book is only getting started! Definitely can’t wait to read the next issue.

My rating – 9/10 Awesome!
