Thanks to Dark Horse Comics for the review copy!

A new mini-series from prolific horror maestro Cullen Bunn celebrating the famed monsters of yesteryear. When a long lost film surfaces at a film festival all hell breaks loose. A group of locals become the only thing that stands between the town and eternal damnation.

Another hit right out of the gate for Bunn! He can clearly do no wrong when it comes to horror. This was a super fun read that invoked all kinds of nostalgia. I picked up on nods to Fright Night, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and of course Monster Squad to name a few. The story has all of the classic elements of those horror movies from back in the day. They not only scared the bejesus out of you but also kinda had a way of making you feel good at the same time. If you can strike a balance like that you know you are onto something good. I’d also be remiss if I didn’t mention how fantastic the art, colors, and lettering were too. These monsters are scary! It’s bloody, detailed, and a gory good time. The lettering style Campbell uses really helps to break up and differentiate between the different parts of the story. It also at times evokes the style of those old pre code horror comics of the early 50’s.

I just had a lot of fun reading this first issue and I can’t wait to see what Bunn and team has in store for us in the next issue.

My rating – 10/10 Superb!!
