Thanks to Dark Horse Comics for the review copy!
A new horror crime series from Kyle Starks, creator of the hit series Where Monsters Lie with an all-star team of contributors. When two prolific serial killers in the same city learn they are both close to passing the record of kills in the state they enter into a twisted competition to see who can get there first.
We’re back with our first review of 2025 and it’s a doozy! After a fantastic run of Where Monsters Dwell and the sequel in stores now, Kyle Starks is back again with an even darker and more sinister take on the serial crime genre! He’s gone full throttle with this one as he opens the first issue with a chilling and quite powerful quote from infamous serial killer Richard Ramirez AKA The Night Stalker. If that doesn’t set the tone of this book i’m not sure what all can. Let’s just say after reading that opening I was ready to dig in! It’s a great read right from the start of the issue and I love the main idea behind the story. There are so many wild and twisted places I can see Starks going with this. It’s clearly not going to have as much of his trademark humor but it’s been a lot of fun to see him work within the horror toolbox and it still has that bit of Kyle Starks charm. It especially stands out when the two killers are sharing dialogue in the first issue. It’s really a lot of fun to see how this first issue unfolds and it’s not at all what you were expecting when you started reading. The art and colors are a great combo as well. They lend the perfect style to Starks pitch black commentary. It’s bloody without being overkill and details blend with ease into the background with the coloring and lettering. I really enjoyed this first issue and I can’t wait to dip my bloody toes into the next one! I’ve always been a Kyle Starks fan but somehow he just keeps getting better and better! Definitely check this one out when it hits the stands on January 8th!
My Rating – 10/10 Perfect!
