In this issue Optimus Prime and the Autobots appear to have gained the edge in battle having revived a few comrades to join in the fight. That is until Starscream revives one of the most powerful Decepticons ever and gains an unfair advantage over the Autobots and their attempts to save humans and Earth.Ā
What an issue. Simply exhilarating! Daniel Warren Johnson continues his contagious and refreshing new take on Transformers lore with new but familiar faces, fantastic action sequences, and dramatic tension that exceeds some of the finest rivalries weāve seen in comics to date. The way heās given the Autobots, especially Optimus Prime, the ability to relate to humans both as soldiers and defenders of their home is brilliant. I love the side by side sequences showing just how closely the Transformers and humans mirror each other and how Optimus Prime even sees his own humanity in his human counterpart Sparky. Grounding the story in this way expands these characters beyond the original source material and creates something new entirely. Watching the humans fight along the Autobots as the Decepticons ruthlessly and violently try to dispatch both races gives me goosebumps. The frenetic way itās drawn and brought to life in each panel hits you right in the face. The colors rock too! Spicerās bombastic colors pull this all together in true Spicer fashion. Itās just gorgeous. Then, to build the drama just a tad more, as if itās not been crazy enough, they drop a surprise bomb on the final page that leaves your jaw hanging open. Even knowing itās likely going to lead to some Autobot fatalities in the coming issue. Just bonkers stuff! Itās a rollercoaster ride of epic proportions! Donāt miss this issue and the surprises this creative team has in store!
My rating – 10/10 Superb!
