Day 1 at ECCC 2023

This has been one of the best first days at a con for me, with ECCC being four days long and this only being my second time going for the long haul. It was a great slower day to go and enjoy the con without as many people in the crowds. It also seems like a very professional day for panels too!

First of all the new Seattle Convention Center building is beautiful, the layouts are smart and lots of space for people to sit and people watch (wooden oversized stairs for sitting next to the escalators to watch people inside the con and outside coming in through the big windows). It’s also a relief that everything is in one single building and all you have to worry about is going up and down the escalators and maps to find where you want to go.  The only downside is my service sucks, but it’s all good! I got the Wifi password by the end of the day and life is great!

There were so many amazing booths at the exhibitor hall, and so much beautiful art. There was no way I could hold myself completely back from it all. I ended up buying two prints, two stickers and two One Piece cats (I’m trying to get them all because I love them). Though there are a lot of figures I took photos of that I really really want to get my hands on (fingers crossed), so many Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures figures I haven’t seen before. Mainly more One Piece figures, since I love it so much and my One Piece shelf needs some more on it.

The cosplays that came out for day one were also fantastic! I saw one guy cosplaying as Zach Galifianakis from The Hangover and I honestly thought he really was the actor! There was also a great Chainsaw Man group that did a great job too. And if I don’t say so myself, my friend and I looked pretty great in our Gojo and Nanami cosplays from Jujitsu Kaise. Though that could be due to the amazing photography by Triple Click Photo, who will be at ECCC all weekend (I highly recommend stopping by at least once no matter what you have on, cause these are always the best photos of me).

I also took some time to explore what the different levels had to offer, loved Pop Asia and everything it had to offer. The hallway leading to the panels I went to this morning on level four were lined with fake mini cherry blossom trees (also known as Sakura trees). It made it seem more magical and fun to take photos with. They had gaming setup on this floor too, which I’ll be visiting to play some Magic later this weekend. There was also a section set up to take photos with a backdrop and cherry blossom trees and petals. Next to it was the cosplay display room, where you’re able to see the Pacific Northwest Guild of Cosplayers display award winning cosplay and talk with their makers. They are handing on a cosplay bingo card this weekend too, I highly suggest picking one up and take photos (with consent!) to fill your bingo sheet and turn in to be entered for fun prizes! I’m excited to join in on this because I feel like I always forget to take cosplay photos of people who have done a really great job, and I love to share the amazing things I’ve seen with others.

Day two starts in a few hours for me, so I think I’ll try and get some sleep (though the excitement is keeping me up already). I have so many more fun things to share with you all this weekend, and can’t wait to post some photos too! For everyone going tomorrow for day two, have a blast and give your feet some rest here and there.
