Time for WasabiCon PDX!

It’s only just the start of this week and one of the busiest convention seasons is quickly approaching, this weekend being the first. This coming weekend both San Diego Comic-Con and WasabiCon will be taking place, yes I know one is huge and the other is fairly small. But us here at the Convention Collective will be covering both events!

I decided to opt out of SDCC this year, because last year was a lot and I want to be better prepared before going back (and this year has already been full of big conventions). So, I will be attending WasabiCon in Portland, Oregon with some friends! I had a really nice time last year at this con (from my hazy memory of it) and have wanted to go back to experience it better.

I’m super happy I was able to make this upcoming weekend work, I feel like I have been working non-stop to get ready for the upcoming con season. But, it will be so much fun to be going back to WasabiCon for some laid back fun. I’m really hoping to make it to the Cosplay Deviants after dark party this time and check out more of the panels as well! I hear that they always put on really fun parties for conventions and I think it will be a blast to attend finally!

As I have been going through the schedule, I have noticed a lot of things I need to make sure to check out while I’m there. Some of the panels I noticed right away was, Introducing Work life Into Cosplay, Just Checking In! Safety Tools and TTRPGS, and Anime Jeopardy. There are a few more events/panels on my list to see while I’m at the convention, but these are my top three panels I’m aiming to make it to. A little bit of bias but I’m super excited to finally catch a panel hosted by my friend ClickClackSnac, they will be hosting the panel, Just Checking In! Safety Tools and TTRPGS, and I can’t wait! Tabletop role-playing game are something I’ve wanted to learn more about and get more into because they sound so fun and I just keep hearing more and more about them.

I always love checking in with the Pacific Northwest Guild of Cosplayers whenever I see that they will be at a convention in the area. It feels like it’s been forever since I have seen them at con, but really only since Emerald City Comic Con. I always love recommending people in the area to sign up with the guild because they always do really fun meetups and it’s a great way to learn and get any burning questions on how to make something answered. It’s also a great bonus that everyone that they have representing them from the guild is super nice! They are just the best when doing cosplay repair stations (saved my life and my cosplays many times when an accident occurs), and the quiet rooms at conventions for people to take a breather at.

Only a few more days till this fun filled weekend is here, grab your tickets to WasabiCon PDX now! It’s being held at the Hilton in downtown Portland! I’m super excited to see you all there this weekend and hear/read all about SDCC from our other correspondents here at The Convention Collective!
