Thanks to Dark Horse for the review copy!

A new horror adventure offering from Dark Horse written by Eisner Award winner Steve Foxe of Razorblades: The horror magazine fame. In the darkest shadows and loneliest corners of NYC something depraved is feeding on the homeless, poor and missing denizens of the city. When a loner 20-something wanders off the beaten path he’s pulled into a dangerous world of secrets and survival. Will he join the cause and wage war on these creatures or pretend like it’s not happening. Either way there’s no escaping the truth he’s now learned.

Spiders! Ick! This was a really fun issue. I love the classic B movie creature feature vibe. It has the perfect amount of suspense and gore and just a really creepy overall feel. It’s a swiftly paced issue moving the main character in and out of danger. For much of the issue we are not really sure who is safe or what is going to happen next as there are plot curves around every bend. I loved how they created a backstory for the creatures by showing them in some old timey photo-like panels too! Basically making it seem as though they have been here all along or at least since the city’s beginning. it just adds a whole additional layer of mysteriousness to the story. The art from Piotr is great! There are some pretty tense scenes of creature mayhem and gore and you know, spiders are just scary to begin with! The colors (from veteran Brad Simpson) and details are vivid and the whole package just works really well. It’s like Arachnophobia meets Godzilla but with a middle layer of They Live. Definitely can’t wait to read the next issue!

My rating 8/10 Great!
