Thanks to Image Comics and Skybound for the review copy!

A new prestige series by acclaimed artist and creator Dylan Burnett that combines gaming, fighting action, and family drama in the vein of all your favorite 80’s and 90’s Saturday morning cartoons. It’s a little bit Double Dragon, A little bit The Wizard and ultimately a whole lotta fun! When the mysterious Dragon Fruit masked Joe shows up looking for a place to stay he befriends the nephew of the owner of a local arcade. He vows to protect the owner’s nephew in lieu of a place to stay. As Joe quickly becomes the local favorite to beat in the arcade his past comes back to haunt him and he’s suddenly caught in battle for both his own life and his family’s legacy.

First off, I’m loving the number of books out right now that are taking us back to the simpler times of the 80’s and 90’s with just a full on assault of action movie drama and nostalgia. Burnett hits the nail on the head with this book delivering a fun premise and a knock-out blow to your senses. It’s an imaginative and fun world loaded with all the excitement, innocence, and energy of a teenage wet dream and makes me wish I could go back in time and experience my youth all over again. What makes the book even more special is the art and colors. The colors really pop in this book and the lettering blends perfectly into each panel. Every detail about the scope and tone of this book feels purposeful and complete. The fighting, dialogue and action in general, all really hits. It’s like watching a cartoon video game unravel page by page in your mind. If you are into video games, cartoons, and wild action sequences this book should be on your radar! I promise you won’t be disappointed. I look forward to seeing what happens in issue #2.

My rating 9/10 great!
