BONE ORCHARD: TENEMENT #1 review – Creepy, unsettling, and stirring with psychological trauma and fear (Lemire, Sorrentino, Stewart, Wands) Image Comics

Writer: Jeff Lemire
Artist: Andrea Sorrentino
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Letterer and Designer: Steve Wands
Editor: Greg Lockard

Thanks to Image Comics for the review copy!

Critically acclaimed duo Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, creators of Gideon Falls and Ten Thousand Black Feathers are back with a new terrifying chapter in the Bone Orchard Mythos. This time set in a decrepit apartment building where 7 residents appear to be linked together and entwined in a dark secret that appears to be taking the lives of the building’s inhabitants.

Lemire somehow continues to find time to expand his horror universe in exciting and original ways. It’s hard to believe he finds any time as he may be the busiest writer in comics. I swear he must write in his sleep. Regardless he continues to amaze and each new offering is always as incredible as the last. With frequent collaborator Sorrentino they manage to add compelling new drama and mystery into the Bone Orchard Mythos. It’s creepy, unsettling, and stirring with psychological trauma and fear. It’s a potential property that is ripe for the picking as streaming giants and movie companies continue to look for new and exciting material to bring to the screen. Much like the other GN’s and series in this universe Sorrentino weaves together a tapestry of crisp bright detail that lives in the shadows of each panel. His art is moody and rich with sharp lines that contain a common thread which links all of the books together. He’s become a true master of his domain and with Lemire in the mix they rank up near the top as far as frequent collaborators go. If you have been keeping up with the Bone Orchard Mythos or enjoyed Gideon Falls, this is a must read.

My rating 9/10 Excellent!
