CREEPSHOW: JOE HILL’S WOLVERTON STATION Review – Rife with blood, guts and general carnage (Hill, Ciaramella, Walsh, Brosseau) Image Comics

Writers: Joe Hill & Jason Ciaramella
Artist: Michael Walsh
Letterer: Pat Brosseau

Thanks to Image Comics for the review copy!

A brand new Creepshow short story from master writer and novelist Joe Hill. When a notorious and greedy collector makes a special trip to obtain a one of a kind piece for his collection he ends up taking a one way train out of Wolverton Station and getting far more than he ever bargained for.

Creepshow has come back with a vengeance this past couple years. Image has brought together some great talent and the creative teams for these books have been fantastic. It was a no-brainer for me when I heard Joe Hill had written this issue with Jason Ciaramella. It’s an old school story that ends with a moral much like many of the old Creepshow shorts. Rich greedy man meets an untimely and horrific death but ultimately, deservingly so. It’s a pretty straightforward and quick read but it hits all the marks. It’s gory, irreverent, and full of easter eggs paying homage to the horror films of yesteryear. It’s written with Hill’s trademark dark and somewhat comical tone. (No pun intended). Of course as a reader you can’t wait to see this collector meet his demise so you can only imagine how dickish and sinister he’s been written. You get that sense almost right off the bat! “This jerk is going to get what he has coming to him” haha. It’s wonderfully drawn and colored as well. It has that almost whimsical but still ferocious look about it. Rife with blood, guts and general carnage, and I mean RIFE! Overall it’s a really fun read and a perfect addition to the Creepshow catalog. If you’re a horror fan you won’t want to miss it!

My rating – 9/10 Great!!
