Advent calendars are ubiquitous these days, featuring everything from make-up to beer and even an official Friends-themed advent calendar. Up-and-coming game design company, The Dungeon Society, is looking out for us Dungeons & Dragons nerds in need of an advent calendar to get hyped about, and will soon unveil the SEASONS OF ADVENTURE 5e compatible advent calendar with a Kickstarter campaign that runs from November 1 – 30.
As a dungeon master who loves running holiday-themed games (let’s fight Krampus!), I was personally quite hyped when I started to read some early info about this advent-ure. I also got the very special opportunity to geek out with Ron Ogden, CEO of The Dungeon Society, about what we can expect with this product!
Ron and his team will be taking us into the frozen realm of Aurorea, which holds equal parts joyous holiday cheer and monstrous beings lurking in the cold, dark wilds of the land. One of my big questions for Ron was what kind of monstrous beings we can expect to see in this realm, and in between a frost-themed Wendigo and my man Krampus himself, it’s safe to say that my hopes for a gritty, sword and sorcery holiday adventure have been fully actualized.
The realm conversely features a Santa’s-North-Pole sort of place, the Crystal City of Tannenholme, replete with a celestial Father Nikolai. Plot demands we threaten such a wonderful and joyous place with destruction, of course, and a dark storm passing over the land and bringing those monstrous beasties ever closer to the city in this adventure should achieve just that.
The advent calendar itself features daily miniatures, tokens, maps, music, a campaign guide, and more, leading up to a playable holiday adventure fit for a game among friends, family, or both. Definitely worth mentioning in this adventure is the artwork, which is nothing short of stunning, coming from Chris Hayes, former Blizzard Artist.
The Dungeon Society’s Kickstarter just launched, so be sure to join as a backer on the project to help them reach their stretch goals so they can load this adventure with a bunch of extra holiday goodies.
