Thanks to IDW Publishing for the review copy!

A psychedelic hillbilly romp turned sci-fi story from IDW about a couple of meth cooks who turn their small town upside down when they try to sell fake drugs after having their operation destroyed by a crashed space rock.

Golgotha Motor Mountain #1 was a really fun and engaging read. It uses the classic hillbilly stereotype as a springboard for delivering a rather funny but also very wild sci-fi story that you definitely won’t see coming over the first few pages. Erman does a great job of setting up the story and identifying the main characters. The dialogue is hilarious at times and the characters are a real couple of losers who are down on their luck. For obvious reasons. You can’t even take these guys seriously at first. In fact, initially it feels a lot like Breaking Bad gone worse but quickly develops into an homage to John Carpenter’s The Thing. Yes! You read that right! The explosion of body horror and carnage that unfolds as the issue wraps is downright brutal! Head splitting in fact! The pencils and colors vividly bring to life the body horror that ensues. It’s super colorful and very gory! It’s truly wild seeing it all unfold. The whole premise is wild! By the end of the issue though, you’ll definitely be curious to see what the hell is going on here. If the creative team is able to continue the momentum they have built out of the gate this is going to be a very fun series. I love the characters and think we’re in for one hell of a ride! Even if it’s in a beaten up old pick-up truck on its way to Baltimore.

My Rating – 8/10 Great!
