Fans of the wildly popular game, Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3), continue to be well fed with plenty of actual-play Dungeons & Dragons content featuring the voice (and mocap) actors behind their favorite characters. I am one of those fans! So it was super exciting to hear that I would be talking to Samantha Béart, voice of Karlach from BG3 at Dragon Con this year.
I actually got the chance to meet her twice this weekend: once at a party for media folks and then again for our interview! On the second occasion, we talked about a burlesque BG3 show she went to the night before, Daggerheart and other tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs) she’s excited about, and her experience doing Dragon Con for the first time this year.
Baldur’s Gay: A Burlesque BG3 Show
Put on by The Hell Hotel, the Baldur’s Gay show featured Astarion, Shadowheart, Halsin, and other characters from BG3 in beautiful burlesque fashion. Béart and I talked about the hilarious narrative premise of the show and how fun it was to cheer on their characters like they were cheering on their kids.
I have since started following The Hell Hotel on TikTok and will absolutely be attending one of their many amazing shows in the near future. Definitely give them a follow if you have not checked them out.
Béart’s Experience with TTRPGs
I was particularly excited to hear Béart was interested in trying out Daggerheart, not only because I am super excited to see Daggerheart’s rise to popularity, but also because she’s becoming spellcaster-curious. I have a hard time playing a character that doesn’t have magic! In any case, Béart had plenty to say about TTRPGs and her love for the theatrics involved.
Samantha’s First Dragon Con
I asked multiple interviewees what they thought of Dragon Con compared to other pop culture cons and comic cons, and while some were willing to admit Dragon Con is the best con, Béart came back like it was a gotcha question. Which is fair, I suppose. Béart has been going to plenty of cons these days, so a hesitance to picking favorites is probably the wise choice.
Dragon Con attendees got to see a ton of Béart this year at Dragon Con with all the actual plays and other panels she attended. Baldur’s Gate 3 has had quite a bit of staying power even two years after its release, so here’s hoping Béart has good reason to come back and visit us again, whether it’s for BG3-related reasons or because she’s ready to admit that Dragon Con is the best con.
