Marvel this week announced a new Spider-Man series, details on four titles that lead up to War of the Realms crossover event, a teaser image for the War of the Realms event, and more.
On Monday, Marvel announced a new 6 part series MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN: CITY OF WAR, based on the hit video game MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN.
The mini-series sees Spider-Man putting Kingpin away, but doing so creates a hole in the criminal underworld…one that is filled by Mister Negative. The new villain quickly threatens two of the closest women in Peter’s life, Aunt May and Mary Jane.
Look for the first issue of the series this March from writer Dennis Hopeless, artist Michele Bandini and main cover artwork by Clayton Crain.
In addition to the main cover there will be four variant cover editions from Tim Tsang (Marvel Games cover), David Nakayama (Sinister Six cover), Gerardo Sandoval, and Adi Granov.
On Tuesday, Marvel released more information on their upcoming War of the Realms crossover event. The event will kick off in April from the
creative team of Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman, and Matthew Wilson but before it does there are 4 titles in March that lead up to the event.
AVENGERS #16 and #17 from the team of writer Jason Aaron and interior and cover art by David Marquez, ASGARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #7 with writing by Cullen Bunn, interior art by Matteo Buffagni, and cover art from Jamal Campbell, and THOR #11 from Jason Aaron with Lee Garbett handling interior art and Mike Del Mundo taking care of cover art.
To celebrate the HUNTED storyline that will kick off in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #17 in March, Marvel announced 20 different variant covers across a wide variety of titles in March, and released previews for 8 of them.
Some of the artist who will be contributing cover art include Greg Hildebrandt, Jen Bartel, Humberto Ramos, Ron Lim, and more.
On Wednesday, Marvel announced one of the more interesting (in my opinion) new releases in a while.
They will be collecting some issues of various titles that dealt with real world issues including “addiction, terrorism, HIV, school shootings, and more” in a new hardcover collection titled MARVEL COMICS: THE WORLD OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW.
Some of the issues that will be part of it including the 9/11 issue of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (#36), NEW MUTANTS #45 which dealt with suicide and bullying, ALPHA FLIGHT #106 which saw a character come out as gay, and a lot of more storylines that had real life issues in them.
In addition to all the other news for Marvel’s upcoming War of the Realms event in April, came a teaser image showing runes from each of the realms, along with a quote from writer Jason Aaron.
“For six years now in my run on THOR, I’ve been using Malekith’s war to explore the different realms that are strung along the World Tree. We’ve been to each and every one of them and seen how the people there have been touched by this war to end all wars. Now, as the war finally comes to the last realm standing, Midgard, where the heroes of Earth are waiting, those other realms will still have a pivotal part to play. Whether for good or ill remains to be seen…
