We are in for a whirlwind this week! I was excited for Steven on his first adventure, and was absolutely terrified of the thought of mummies (my knowledge from the 1999 film, The Mummy, served me well in this episode).
This week we are Moon Knight-less, no powers, no healing, and no god to talk to (since Khonshu got locked away). But, we do get to go on an archeology adventure with Steven in finding Ammit’s tomb, and of course visiting a mental hospital too. You know? For the full rounded adventure.
Wow okay, there is just too much to unpack this week. But, in an insanely great way. More and more hints that are leading to another personality within the body of Steven/Marc. In all honesty I can’t wait for the explosion that this will bring to the other two, seeing as they are just getting along. We even get to see what it would be like if the two were separate, which leads them to having separation anxiety (and finding solstice knowing the other is always there to talk to). This leads me to believe that maybe the start of this splitting of multiple personalities was caused by childhood trauma of being left on their own, or punished with loneliness (such as being locked in a room by themselves) and thus ended with them creating friends to talk with. But, this whole theory depends on any information we might get about who the body actually started with and the backstory of how everything started, along with the mother who is becoming more and more vital to finding these answers.
We get to see a bit of a romance brewing between Layla and Steven, since he refuses to give up control back to Marc with Khonshu gone. Steven shows Layla how different he and Marc really are, since he is very open and honest (and really just can’t lie, cause he’s so earnest). But, being the true good guy, tells Layla about Marc protecting her by pushing her away. So it seems that we might get more of a love triangle before the series is finished, which leads to more questions. With Layla and Marc married, is it legal if Marc is not the original personality in the body? Is it cheating if it’s the same body? Can someone love the many personalities of their spouse? Along with a whole truck full more.
Do I want to talk about Steven’s first adventure? Hell yes I do! But do I also need to talk about how scared shitless I was at the same time? Sadly, yes. Being an archaeologist is what Steven was meant to be, he’s just such a sweet baby angel who is excited about Egyptian history. At the same time, this was the first time I’ve been this caught off guard by a mummy since watching the 1999 film,The Mummy, which I was way too young to watch that first time (I was terrified, but absolutely love the movie now in my 20’s). Anyway, along with the terrifying with a dash of horror that will leaving you screaming terror and surprise, you will absolutely lose your mind in the aftermath of Steven and Marc finding what they were looking for. It also gives many clues into Steven and Marc, and might have just answered many of our biggest questions for the series. Who the original personality is of the body, which is looking more and more like a certain character we were not expecting off the bat.
With only a few episodes left and new ones added every Wednesday, catch up and rewatch all the episodes of Moon Knight on Disney+ now!
