Thanks to IDW Publishing for the review copy!
SCARENTHOOD an IDW 4 issue miniseries, is fantastic! What an absolute fun read. The tone of the story is a bit of Ghostbusters, meets the Sixth Sense, meets Big Daddy. Be forewarned, the F-bomb is used in excess, and overall, the language is atrocious, and can be hard to get through if you are sensitive to it.
In a nutshell, the story takes place in Ireland and is about a group of parents that have become friends and part time ghost hunters, because the school where all their children go appears to be possessed. There is Flyno – The large Irish hothead fighter, Cormac – The Jerk with sensitivities to the supernatural, Jen – The angry wife, and Sinead – The lighthearted. The speech patterns and at time long drawn out are very reminiscent of typical shows from the British Isles. So if you love Brit-Coms or Monty Python it’ll be an easy read.
The interior art is well done, crisp and expressive. It really adds to the visual storytelling, and expresses a great depth of emotion in our characters. Not a surprise from Roche. If you like murder mysteries, and ghost stories, this is well worth your time! Enjoy! I’ll let you know if the finale is as great as I expect.
SCARENTHOOD #2 and #3 are now available.
Check back in a few weeks for my thoughts on the fourth and final issue of the mini-series!
