While I was at San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks ago, I had a chance to participate in the press room for 2 shows that will be streaming on Hulu.
The first roundtable interview was with three of the minds behind a new animated series titled KOALA MAN. Creator and writer Michael Cusack (who also voices a few characters on the show) along with creators Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit as they talk about what it took to bring the new show to the screen, as well as how they got Hugh Jackman to be one of the voices on the show. The first season of the show is set to premiere in 2023.
The official synopsis for KOALA MAN is as follows: KOALA MAN follows middle-aged dad Kevin (who is voiced by co-creator Michael Cusack) and his titular not-so-secret identity, whose only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the town of Dapto. Though it may seem like any other Australian suburb, forces of evil both cosmic and man-made lie in wait to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a quest to clean up his hometown, and often roping his frustrated family into his adventures, Koala Man stands at the ready. He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.
The second set of roundtable interviews had the some of the minds behind SOLAR OPPOSITES whose 3rd season debuted on Hulu in Mid-July, and whose 4th season is set to premiere in 2023. First up we have Mike McMahan (showrunner / co-creator), Josh Bycel (executive producer), Danielle Uhlarik (writer) and Joe Saunders (writer) as they discuss what it was like to bring the new season to the screen.
After the creative minds behind the show moved to another table, three of the actors who voice characters on the show (Thomas Middleditch who voices Terry, Sean Giambrone who voices Yumyulack, and Mary Mack who voices Jessica sat down to talk about the previous seasons of the show and other tidbits behind the BMI Film & TV Awards winner in the BMI Streaming Series Awards for 2022.
Last up for the roundtable session was Justin Roiland who along with the above mentioned Mike McMahon co-created SOLAR OPPOSITES. Justin also voices Korvo on the show, along with executive producing both SOLAR OPPOSITES and the forthcoming KOALA MAN. Justin talked about his roles on both shows, and what we can expect to see in the future.
Also at Comic-Con a brand-new holiday special for SOLAR OPPOSITES was announced. Set to air on Hulu in early October will be “A Sinister Halloween Scary Opposites Solar Special”.
