SHE KILLS Volume 1, Part 1 (Meighan, GABO, Esposito) set for release digitally for free on April 8th

Announced today was a new comic book that caught our eye. With no new comics being released to comic book shops this may help (temporarily) fill the void for new titles.

SHE KILLS is based on historical events of the indigenous southwest. The title focuses on the title character of She Kills and her struggles to survive lynch mobs, lawless psychopaths…and a soon to be 13 year old daughter in 1851 California.

The creative team includes writer Patrick Meighan (Writer and Executive Producer on FAMILY GUY) with art from GABO (who has won both Harvey, and Eisner Awards), cover artist Adam Gorham, Letterer Taylor Esposito, and Editor Ashley V. Robinson.

The first issue of the adult (17+) title will be released digitally for free at www.shekillscomic.com on April 8th with the second and third issues set for release on May 13th, and June 10th respectively.

Full press release is below.

Patrick Meighan’s SHE KILLS Volume 1, Part 1, Goes Live April 8th!
She Kills Part 1 is Free to read at shekillscomic.com

From the mind of Patrick Meighan, Writer and Executive Producer of the hit animated series Family Guy, with art by Harvey and Eisner award winner GABO (Elephantmen), comes She Kills—the tale of one bad madre. She Kills Volume 1, Part 1 goes live on April 8th on www.shekillscomic.com, and is completely free!  Fans can jump on the page now to sign up for updates and exclusives.

She Kills is a project born out of my 10 years of research into mid-19th century California,” said writer Patrick Meighan. “It uses a violent historical episode (the descent and death of LA sheriff James Barton) as a backdrop to tell a fictional mother-daughter story, driven by a strong female protagonist… a woman fighting to determine her own family’s destiny in a time and place when to do so was a revolutionary act.  Because I decided to tell this story from the point of view of one of LA’s native workers, I sought an elder from one of the local First Nation communities, who graciously read every single draft of the series, giving me guidance that was truly invaluable to the story’s context, and which shaped what She Kills has become. Now I can’t wait to share it with the world.”

She Kills has one knife, one daughter, and zero yū-ah’s to give. Based on historical events of the indigenous southwest, She Kills struggles to survive lynch mobs, lawless psychopaths, and worst of all her daughter, Joaquin Dos, who is about to turn 13. Dos will soon learn what kind of person her mother really is. And She Kills will learn just how far her daughter is willing to go to claim her independence. With violence and evil trying to drive a wedge between them at step, if they survive, will the fury leave deep, debilitating scars?

SHE KILLS VOLUME 1, PART 1

California, 1851. She Kills, an ill-tempered, itinerant woman, and her timid teenage daughter, Joaquin Dos, drift into a small pueblo ravaged by violence and vigilante repression. Despite constant supervision and protection, when an aspiring newspaperman lays eyes on them, it alters the course of life for She Kills and Dos.

Patrick Meighan, known for scripting the famous “The Simpsons Guy” crossover episode of Family Guy, has also served as a co-writer on Seth MacFarlane’s material for The Oscars in 2013, has worked on television specials such as the Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump, and more.  She Kills, Volume 1, Part 2 will go live on May 13th, and She Kills, Volume 1, Part 3 on June 10th.
