As I’m getting ready for Emerald City Comic Con 2022 just around the corner (which has actually happened by this point in time)… I thought this would be a great time to hop into what I’ve been into recently, which is cosplay. Ever since ECCC 2021, I did a very casual cosplay for Spider-Gwen (just a cute top with her outfit on it and some amazing leggings) and loved seeing everyone’s hard work. I really wanted to fully join in on the fun, and have always thought about learning to make my own cosplays. I have a little experience with cosplaying back in my high school days, a friend of mine liked to do group cosplays and would always make me an outfit to wear with the group (I helped out a little, and ended up buying one of the outfits from her later on).
Anyway, back to December 2021. By the end of ECCC I ended up deciding to make my own cosplays for the next upcoming con I had, Sakura-Con in April of 2022 (you can read about my adventures at Sakura-Con here). I had months till the con, plenty of time to figure out which cosplays and get to work on three of them. You would think I would have planned everything out, practiced and honed my skills to make the cosplay I was imagining. I wish that was how it all played out.
Unfortunately, I ended up making the cosplays in about a month and a half before the con. Even working into the wee hours of the morning each night before con to get them done, and there were still things that were not what I was hoping for. But, some really great parts came out of it all and I learned so much from everything. I also know what I’ll be fixing up to use again in the future (tweeking and updating), along with some very important lessons. First of all, time management (of course), planning out each aspect of the cosplay outfits and props needed (or wanted), and finally make up and wigs (I now know I can never style a wig).
In the end, my three first time cosplays for Sakura-Con 2022 turned out well and I had a lot of fun. I also want to step up my game for future cons I have coming up this year (so far, three to four coming up for the rest of the year), and am working on four cosplays for Emerald City Comic Con 2022 (which took place last month, look for my post about that soon). I am working on fixing up a cosplay I used for Sakura-Con, Bakugou, and working on three other new cosplays! My current line-up for con (this is not at all the order in which I’ll be cosplaying, that will be later), I’m fixing up my Bakugou (My Hero Academia), and doing a Luffy (One Piece), a punk version of Kiki (Kiki’s Delivery Service) and Zoro (One Piece). I’m very excited for all four of these and am also brainstorming for Rose City Comic Con too!
