THE MADNESS #2 Review – A hard hitting and fast paced issue (Straczynski, ACO, Maiolo, Lorenzo, Cipriano) AWA Studios

Writer: J. Michael Straczynski
Artist: ACO
Colorist: Marcelo Maiolo
Inker: David Lorenzo
Letterer: Sal Cipriano

Thanks to AWA Studios for the review copy!

The second chapter in this explosive action thriller starts off with a bang!! We learn that Sarah has had an imaginary friend since her childhood. Now that friend has returned as her deadly alter-ego and she’s ready to take revenge on the people responsible for her family’s death.

I thought this second issue was a nice departure after the heavy action of the first issue. We needed some backstory and that’s exactly what Straczynski gave us. It’s not without action but it’s more subtle and thoughtful in the least as we see Sarah as a child. Learning her crucial backstory is key to understanding just how frail she is mentally and yet potentially lethal and completely unhinged. You can only imagine what is coming next is going to be bat shit crazy. It’s clear after witnessing the death of her family a flip has been switched and she is not the same. We witness some pretty violent and gory interrogations that have rewarding outcomes and the issue ends with a boom! The art and colors have been fantastic through two issues and the lettering has been smooth and flows nicely from panel to panel. It’s an easy book to digest. Through two issues it remains hard hitting and fast paced and that benefits this type of story. Definitely worth a look if you are looking for something new. Issue #1 can still probably be found on the shelves as well.

My rating 8/10 Great!
