Tonight, at the Cartoon Museum in London, Tripwire Magazine EIC Joel Meadows and renowned writer Jasper Bark hosted the winner’s ceremony of this year’s Tripwire Awards, a celebration of the last twelve months of comics and the comics industry.
The Awards nominations were compiled by a select group of judges – Joel, The Comicons’s Senior Editor Olly McNamee, Mass Movement’s Tim Cundle and your very own Convention Collective’s Leonard Sultana – but the winners were voted on by the general public: fans and appreciators of comics from across the globe.
The voting proved exceptionally close on a number of the categories, right up to the closing bell on Midnight, Sunday 25th September – literally down to a handful of votes, in some cases – but ultimately, winners had to be selected and, it’s fair ro say, some incredible creatives and companies have rightfully been the proud recipients of their accolades.
The Convention Collective’s sponsored categories of Best New Talent – won by amazing 2000AD artist Anna Morozova – and best Convention – awarded to Comic-Con International’s San Diego Comic-Con – are standout categories, of course, but it’s great to see talents such as James Tynion IV (Best Writer), Peach Mokomo (Best Cover Artist), Time Bomb Comics (Best Independent/Small Press – U.K.) and the team behind SUPERGIRL: WOMAN OF TOMORROW, Tom King and Bilquis Evely, being recognised for their fine work.
