W0RLDTR33 #2 review – The story continues to take root and the Undernet continues to spread (Tynion IV, Blanco, Bellaire, Bidikar) Image Comics

Thanks to Image Comics for the review copy!

As we dig deeper into W0RLDTR33, the story continues to take root and the Undernet continues to spread. A team of hackers tasked with stopping the spread has been brought together under one roof while PH34R stealthily stalks a reporter who’s also looking for answers. The FBI is on the case as well as we take a reprieve from the main storyline for some character building. The real question though, will any of them be successful before the whole world is turned upside down.

Another great issue by Tynion and team as we continue to move forward by building on the backstory and main players. Issue #2 slows down just a tad after the crazy pace and excitement of the first issue but that’s ok as we need to learn more about what is happening and why. There is some great back and forth dialogue between various parties here laying the foundation for what’s to come. We’re basically witness to around 4 different conversations being had at various points while a bit of stalking in the shadows is carried out by PH34R during one of them. Some of it is just silly banter, some of it more serious in tone but all of it seems like necessary character building. As usual Tynion does a great job of fleshing out the cast while Blanco and Bellaire hold down the book with purposely frantic and busy line work and sharp but muted tones. Somehow the art, colors, and lettering create their own sense of dread as they masterfully combine to enhance every panel and page. It almost plays out like a movie in your mind how smoothly all of these pieces come together. The cat and mouse that plays out between PH34R and the female podcaster is fantastic and keeps you on edge through the whole issue. Talk about creepy! After the first issue we know nothing is out of bounds in this book and by the final page of this issue it’s clear the body count is only going to continue to rise. Will anyone be able to stop the W0RLDTR33 from taking hold?

My rating – 9/10 Great!

W0RLDTR33 #2 is set to be released on May 31st.
