WCC 2022: comics legend Mike Perkins attends Wales Comic Con Telford Takeover in April

Wales Comic Con organiser Jaime Milner has been making every effort to raise the profile of his show within the comics community for several years now – WCC has, perhaps understandably, been painted with the brush of being a predominately ‘sigs and photos’ film and TV guest style of comic con and, as a comics fan himself, Jaime wants to change that up, radically.

From inviting and exhibiting the likes of Grant Perkins, Kit Buss, Sonia Leong, Gary Erskine, John Paul Leon and, most recently, James O’Barr, comics are being put in a spotlight of their own at Wales Comic Con: Telford Takeover – and for the April 2022 edition of the show, another steller name gets added to the roster.

CAPTAIN AMERICA / STEPHEN KING’S THE STAND / THE SWAMP THING artist – and all-round comics ledge – Mike Perkins will be joining the invited comics talent, setting up stalls and meeting fans, at the Telford International Centre over the weekend of Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April 2022, no doubt wowing attendees with an impressive array of prints, books and original artwork which, I must say, may be worth just swinging by and checking out for that: it’s an impressive portfolio.

Mike has returned to the UK from living out in the States for over twenty years, carving out his extensive career, and is back to make his mark on a number of conventions including a triumphant appearance at Thought Bubble this month and, yes, this show in Not-Quite-Wales-Just-A-Stones-Throw-Away. We’re very much looking forward to crossing Mike’s path again.

There’s more! Mike will be tabling beside already announced guests Phil Winslade, Staz Johnson and John McCrea at the Spring show so make sure you get the chance to swing by the comics artists tables at Wales Comic Con: Telford Takeover next April.

Okay, let’s be fair, WCC does also get its big and small screen names making an appearance, too, and at the show, attendees will get the chance to meet the likes of special guests Bruce Campbell (ARMY OF DARKNESS), Brad Dourif (DUNE / LORD OF THE RINGS), Anna Paquin (TRUE BLOOD / X-MEN), Summer Glau (FIREFLY) and Brian Blessed (FLASH GORDON / BLACKADDER). There’s going to be plenty more revealed down the line so watch this space for those – here’s hoping that I’ll be making a return appearance as the panel host for the brand new Live Lounge Stage, I had me a blast last weekend!
