Hey guys! I know it’s been a few weeks since Emerald City Comic Con 2022, but I needed a bit of time to get back into my “everyday Ali self” before being able to write this (con hangover is a thing). Anyway, I really wanted to talk about the great fun I was able to experience this year at ECCC and share it with you all (maybe next year you’ll be at it too!).
First and foremost, cosplayers this year brought the heat (and not just with the blazing weather we go this year) with their amazing cosplays. I have never seen people with such talent before, everyone looked so absolutely amazing! Every time I saw someone in cosplay that took my breath away, all I kept thinking about was how I could also improve my own ideas of what I already made and what I want to make in the future. Everyone was also super kind and respectful with people in cosplay (just from what I could see and experienced myself). It was also really cool that so many people knew the anime’s that my cosplays were from and wanted photos, and not just of me but with me too! I had a couple of great moments in cosplay, one, I was challenged to a duel with Ezra from Fairy Tail when I was Zoro from One Piece. The second, I guess I was getting asked for a photo but completely thought it was one for my friend and not me (don’t worry, I figured it out after a minute or two). Lastly, there were so many kids knowing who I was and wanting photos together (all were so sweet and adorable in their cosplays!).
I would also love to give a big shout out to The Pacific Northwest Guild of Cosplayers! They hosted so many different types of panels on cosplay and had an area to talk with cosplayers and see their work. They also ran the repair station for any cosplays that went sideways and needed some extra help. I visited a few times with friends and for a knee pad that just did not want to stay up, they really were a tremendous help to everyone. I look forward to spending more time with the guild this year and seeing them at other cons (Rose City Comic Con for sure!).
The biggest event for cosplay this year was the C2E2 cosplay contest to see who would represent in the championships next year. I’ve never been to a cosplay contest before, but I have to say everyone on stage looked great! So much time, effort and detail went into each of the cosplays competing and even the judges in their own cosplays looked great! It was a fast show and had some great MC’s who knew how to get quite a few laughs from everyone with their fun pre show and half time show. In the end it was hard to say who was going to be the overall winner, there were just way too many great cosplays that turned out so good.
I honestly can’t wait for Emerald City Comic Con (March 2-5 2023) to roll around again, I already have so many new ideas on cosplays that I want to try out and have ready in time for next year! I also had a blast with my gang I ended up with this year too, one of the best cosplay experiences with them and at the con than I’ve ever had before!
