LA Comic Con Recruits Three Iconic FGC Influencers to Partake in New Interactive Gaming Tournaments at LA Comic Con 2023

Through Partnerships with League Spot and Loadout, Attendees Get the Chance to Compete in eSports Tournaments Against FGC Icons Justin Wong, Punk, and Alex Jebailey (aka Jebaited) in Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 6 Matches

LOS ANGELES – SEPTEMBER 22, 2023 – Los Angeles Comic Con, L.A.’s largest event for comics, gaming, sci-fi, and pop culture, today announces the addition of three iconic fighting game community (FGC) influencers to partake in LA Comic Con’s interactive fan tournaments during this year’s show, including Justin Wong, an FGC legend who has won more EVO titles than anyone else with nine tournaments victories, as well as one of the top-ranked FGC players currently in North America, Punk, and FGC organizer Alex Jebailey (known as Jebaited on Twitch).

In partnership with League Spot, fans will get a chance to play against these FGC legends in eSports-style tournaments for both Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 6 and test their skills against the best of the best. The finals will be held on L.A. Comic Con’s gaming stage in the West Hall, which will serve as the main hub for a variety of content from eSports tournaments, panel presentations, live demos, and much more.

“We always solicit fan feedback on the show and our gaming stage was a major highlight at last year’s show,” said Chris DeMoulin, CEO/GM of Los Angeles Comic Con parent company CEI. “Now, we’re adding a new interactive dynamic to our show’s gaming element by bringing in the likes of these FGC masters to play against the fans and we couldn’t be more excited to have the fans duel against these top-level players. Our League of Legends eSports tournament drew big crowds last year, but this year we wanted to take it up a notch by giving attendees a chance to showcase their skills on the big stage against the best in the world. This show will further solidify L.A. Comic Con as one of the biggest gaming events of the year by giving gaming fans an experience that brings them off the sidelines and into the spotlight for a shared celebration of the games we love.”

The inclusion of the League Spot tournaments and top FGC influencers continues to reflect L.A. Comic Con’s commitment to bring more gaming elements for fans to enjoy at this year’s show. Much like last year, L.A. Comic Con’s gaming offerings will take place in the West Hall, consisting of the gaming stage, live-streaming via stream studio, a free-play area and indie gaming demos powered by The MIX. Event organizers have included an additional 100,000 square feet in the West Hall to make more room for gaming exhibitors and allow space for indie game developers to preview their future releases, giving an opportunity for the IP owners and game companies to connect with fans in LA.

Last year, L.A. Comic Con’s gaming hall hosted over 200 exhibitors and welcomed 87,000 visitors of the 126,000 total attendees to partake in the event’s gaming offerings— receiving an 80% 3-star plus rating from fans. With the expansion of the hall’s space and the inclusion of more gaming activations, L.A. Comic Con continues to provide a platform for exhibitors, publishers, and game developers to showcase their work in order to provide gaming fans another unforgettable experience.

L.A. Comic Con is set to take place December 1-3. Fans can purchase their 3-day passes, VIP tickets, and photo/autograph ops at comicconla.com.
