Creepshow is back for Vol 2. continuing the success of the reimagined show on Shudder. New stories of suspense and terror brought to us in this first issue from acclaimed writers Garth Ennis and Phil Hester. Sit back, dim the lights and let yourself be whisked away by the cautionary advice of The Creep as he introduces two new stories that will keep you awake tonight.

The first story, Make Your Choice, is a bit of social commentary on abortion and the church that will leave you a bit sick to your stomach. It’s foul, controversial, and deranged! It’s classic Ennis! Nobody knows how to dig into the underbelly of our world and culture quite like him. It’s just a gnarly story that ends with a bang! I actually had to read twice because it was so entertaining and had a bit of a chuckle regarding the social commentary. It’s really spot on when you take the time to think about our world today. Cloonan’s art is fantastic with that 70’s comic strip feel. The colors by Loughridge are spot on for the look of this story and the lettering by Brosseau also has that old fashioned B-movie like feel to it. Really just a perfect start to one of my favorite returning series!

My rating – 10/10 Superb!!

The second story, Fossil Record, has a completely different look and feel to it, albeit just as fun. It plays as more of a straight-forward ecological horror story with a bit of a build up to a climactic and horrific ending. The main character appears to be going down a rabbit hole when he discovers a prior paleontologist who everyone thought was crazy was actually right. However, before he can do anything about it he is met with a few scary and startling confrontations. The art and coloring are fantastic as the horror and gore is brought to life with frightening detail. There are a couple panels that are outright wild! The design and layout of the lettering is perfect as well. It’s the perfect accompaniment to the first story and a welcome addition to the whole series.

My rating 9/10 – Great!!
