Director: Paul Feig
Starring: Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Elena Sofia Ricci, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney
Movie Length: 2 hours

What it’s about: A dark comedy/mystery sequel to 2018’s A Simple Favor (which Dan thought was a great movie). The movie sees Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) being invited to the now free from prison Emily/Hope/Charity (Blake Lively)’s wedding in Italy.
What Dan thought: It’s usually tough to rekindle the magic in a sequel that the first movie had. This movie is no exception to that rule. That being said I did enjoy it, but not to the degree the of the first one.
The cast was as terrific as they were in the first one, and the new cast including Allison Janney, Elizabeth Perkins (who replaced Jean Smart as Emily/whatever name she chooses this time’s mother), and Elena Sofia Ricci were great.
The cinematography and visuals were terrific, with the movie having being filmed mostly in Capri, Italy, where a majority of the film took place. Kudos also to composer Theodore Shapiro who once again put together a great score that kept the movie going…he and Paul Feig work well together, no wonder Feig keeps using him to compose movie scores.
All that being said, the story itself didn’t have the magic in my opinion that the first one did. While it was a good dark comedy/mystery, they did set up a few parts of the movie early on (I’m trying to avoid spoilers here), that took away part of the enjoyment I had. I like being surprised by things, and some of what they set up turned out to play a key part later on. The last scene does set up a potential sequel, which if done right, could be terrific.
Dan’s rating: B
