Dungeon Craft: Volume 2 is Jam-Packed with Useful Maps and Monsters

1985 Games has nailed it again, making Dungeon Craft: Volume 2 my new favorite item in their series of Dungeon Craft books simply by being so immediately useful! Featuring a ton of core building archetypes like an inn, a mage tower, and even a farmstead amongst its huge collection of snowy terrain features and monsters, I know I’m going to be getting a lot of use out of what I’ve got here.

As always, the Dungeon Craft books are a collection of dry-erase sheets that feature maps, items, terrain features, and monsters that you can easily drop as-is or cut out to fit onto your battlemaps. With this addition to the Dungeon Craft series, I got my hands on both the Volume 2 book and the Snow & Wood Pack, a huge 24” x 33” battlemap with a snowy backdrop on one side and a wood plank backdrop on the other. All the snowy stuff in volume 2 drops seamlessly onto the snow map and the same goes for the wood bits, so I would recommend picking up both to get the full benefit of these gaming tools.

There are about a dozen monsters and maps that deserve a shoutout, but I’ll put this frozen lake with broken ice featured on the flip side up as my top pick.

For those uninitiated to this feature of Dungeon Craft books, all the flip sides of the sheets feature an alternate, interior, bloodied, or otherwise changed version of the building, terrain, or monster on the front side. I just love this frozen and subsequently broken lake, in particular, because of how perfectly it sets up a surprise environmental challenge for players mid-combat. I can’t wait to see the look of surprise on my players’ faces when I flip the map and show them the frozen lake they’re slipping into.

I also just absolutely love this Baba Yaga house at the end of the book, complete with a Baba Yaga token and an interior view of her hut. Love this character and I will definitely be looking for an opportunity to feature her in one of our upcoming adventures.

Big thank you to 1985 Games for getting me a sneak preview of these, and I highly recommend picking them up for your table when you get a chance!
