FALLING IN LOVE ON THE PATH TO HELL #1 review – Everything about this first issue just kicks ass! (G. Duggan, Brown, O’Halloran, Gray, V. Duggan)

Writer: Gerry Duggan
Artist: Garry Brown
Colorist: Chris O’Halloran
Logo & Designer: Elliott Gray
Editor: Virginia Duggan

Thanks to Image Comics for the review copy!

A new dramatic sci-fi saga from Image written by superstar Gerry Duggan and with art from the extremely talented Garry Brown. Two fatefully entwined warriors from uniquely different geographic locations are brought together to face the most ultimate test of strength, courage, and their beliefs yet. Taken from their native lands and thrust into a hellish landscape full of monsters with death around every corner.

This was fantastic. From the introduction of the gunslinger on the very first page to the wild twist at the end of the issue, this book kept me engaged and wanting more! Duggan has such a creative and expansive way of telling a story and it just all feels so grandiose. The character building, the dialogue, the way it all comes together. It has all the elements of a sprawling saga that feels like equal parts action adventure and mythical quest. Then he pulls the rug out from under your feet with a Robert Rodriguez style hook that catapults this story beyond anything you could have imagined. I especially loved seeing the seemingly parallel path the gunslinger and samurai follow as they come together. It’s almost as if they are each part of one ultimate weapon. A Voltron of sorts, brought together for one purpose! The besting of the wicked, the evil, and the damned. A journey likely uniting them in more ways than we know just yet but it’s clear that we will see our protagonists as friends, lovers, and more. Then there is the art! Wow! It’s gorgeous! It instantly sells you on the characters and story the moment you turn the first page. Drawn intensely and dramatically. Bringing a toughness to one character and a balanced symmetry to the other. Yin and Yang at its finest. The colors, striking, vibrant and searing. Everything about this first issue just kicks ass! All I know is I can’t wait for the next issue and I feel like big things are on the horizon for this one. Check it out and if you are a collector I recommend stashing away a couple copies. Trust me!

My rating – 10/10 Amazing!!
