Kieron Gillen is one of not just the UK’s but the world’s most prolific comic book writers, with output that is as endlessly fascinating, fiercely intelligent and wildly imaginative as it is plenty – it is a testament to his incredible writing that he can balance between licenced titles such as Marvel ComicsYOUNG AVENGERS and STAR WARS: DARTH VADER as well as his own creator-owned titles such as PHONOGRAM, UBER!, THE WICKED + THE DIVINE and DIE (the last two for Image Comics).

2019 finds Gillen in a state of transition as his epic runs on the core Marvel STAR WARS title and his own THE WICKED + THE DIVINE book (with artist Jamie McKelvie) both come to close this Summer… And yet, he finds himself embarking on two new creative endeavours with a freshly released book for Image Comics, DIE (with artist Stephanie Hans), gathering rave reviews for its opening issues and newly announced ONCE AND FUTURE for BOOM! Studios with its deft Arthurian reimagining, bound to keep him busy for months to come.

At this years Portsmouth Comic Con, Tripwire Magazine EIC Joel Meadows talks to Kieron about the need to constantly keep creating, how he calls on previous disciplines as games and pop culture journalist informs his writing, and what he both brings and takes from all of his projects.

Portsmouth Comic Con is confirmed as returning to the city’s Guildhall in 2020, over the Bank Holiday weekend of Saturday 2nd / Sunday 3rd May. Find out more about the show at their official website, www.portsmouthcomiccon.com
