The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Episodes 6 and 7 Review “Spirit of the Ducks” and “Pond Hockey”

The main criticism that’s been levelled at Disney’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers has been its reluctance to use much nostalgia from the original movies. To its credit, the show has attempted to develop its new cast. That all changes in episode 6 – easily, the strongest episode of the series so far.

Episode 6 sees the return of some of the OG Ducks for “The Spirt of the Ducks” celebrations. Unfortunately, Emilio Estevez’s “Gordon Bombay” is not invited. Episode 6 revolves around the returning Ducks – Fulton (played by Elden Henson), Banks (Vincent LaRusso), Connie (Marguerite Moreau), Kenny (Justin Wong), Averman (Matt Doherty) and Guy (Garette Henson) all reuniting with their old coach but wondering what has happened to him.

Fans of the original trilogy will love seeing their favourite Ducks back. The episode also leaves a few hanging threads, including Joshua Jackson’s “Charlie Conway’s” relationship with his old coach.

Spirit of the Ducks is the episode that original fans have been waiting for – and our patience was worth it! Hopefully, this isn’t the last that we’ll see of the original cast. The Mighty Ducks that we all grew up with are back with a bang!

Episode 7 – Pond Hockey – is a bit of a comedown after the highs of the previous episode. This episode focuses on the “Don’t Bothers” trying to repair relations after finding out that team captain, Evan Morrow, attended a try-out for The Mighty Ducks.

At times, this episode is a bit melodramatic, but thankfully Maxwell Simkins’, “Nick Ganz”, once again, breaks the awkwardness with some humour. Of the new cast, Nick Ganz has been the standout character of this season.

Episode 7 also further develops the relationship between Gordan Bombay and Lauren Graham’s “Alex Morrow”. It’s clear a romance is brewing between the pair.

Episode 7 of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers might not hit the heights of seeing the original Ducks in episode 6, but it’s still a strong outing that further develops the new characters that have been introduced this season.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers airs every Friday on Disney+.
