“…I’ll be back.”
First up, we have to apologise for my recent absences – IRL events conspired for us to take some necessary time off. I’d like to thank everyone for all of their kind words of love and support, especially to my wife Caroline: it’s very much appreciated, thank you!
However, we’re back in front of the webcam and raring to go, with two weeks of cracking guests and shop features, back to back. First up this week, we get the chance to speak to someone representing a publisher we’ve become quite the fans of on The Convention Collective, which is Shero Comics (https://sherocomics.com/), a California-based small press publisher from Shequeta L. Smith.
Shequeta, for the last two years, has been putting out some really strong books, showcasing both diverse characters and creators, as well as organising a new pop-up convention, SheroCon, that will be taking place next weekend (https://theconventioncollective.com/connews/female-themed-pop-up-comic-convention-sherocon-coming-to-westfield-mall-culver-city-on-march-9th). We really like what she and the Shero team have been doing, and I’m looking forward to hearing what Shequeta feels about presenting her books at conventions, and how they help her get the Shero message out to the wider world.
We’re also starting a new feature on the show this week, a weekly dive into how to get the most and best out of your convention experience, taking a look each Sunday at a different aspect of con life. This week, it’s a chat about that much maligned and often ignored aspect of the exhibition floor: the Artist Alley. How do you approach and talk to these creatives on the other side of the tables? What can you expect, meeting them and asking about their work? It’s Comic Con 101, Session A: Do Not Pet The Artists!
