Day 1 at Rose City Comic Con 2023 (Cosplayers galore…and a llama!)

Welp, I feel like I have already started off bad on my promise to go to a few panels (that I made in my RCCC preview post). I missed the ones that I had planned on for Friday, because I was way too distracted by the vendor and artist hall. Plus, I kept running into friends I had not seen in a while. I feel like I had a good excuse, and I still have the rest of the weekend now!

For day one at RCCC, it went really well! Lots of fun things to see, mainly cosplay. I was just so awed by all the very creative and nice cosplayers on Friday. I was able to even snag a few photos of cosplayers and of a llama (I’ll get to that later). There was even this Jujutsu Kaisen cosplay group that blew me away from the detail of their cosplays, I sadly was not able to catch them in time for a photo (but they looked really great!).

My first whole day was pretty much filled with all One Piece (surprising huh?). I ran to do the stamp rally since I really didn’t want to miss out (they only had a few sheets for day one), I think I was the first person done. So I of course picked up some really great One Piece art (I’ll do a little show and tell in my wrap up article). I can’t stop looking at some of the art I picked up though, it’s all so pretty and I’m already imagining where it will be hung up (might have to get some frames for it all).

I also had a lot of fun hunting down the new One Piece trading cards, I was lucky enough to find one booth. From there I was able to spot a few more and pick up some really cool new packs and boxes. Now, I still do not know how to play the One Piece card game, I need to actually play to learn (since that is my learning style). Some friends and I have a game day set up to play when I’m back from Rose City Comic Con so that will get me going. Although I do have almost all of the older precon boxes, I have been picking up the new packs. I was super excited to get the newest pack, Kingdom of Intrigue, here at Rose City. Very good prices, and I got some really cool cards (I cannot wait to make them into decks). I’m already planning to grab some more today for myself and a friend.

The kids area of the convention was also pretty cool, lots of fun activities for parents to take their kids to have fun in. There was even a LLAMA! You could take photos and I think pet it, I didn’t get close enough to hear all the details (but still very cool). They had a rock wall and lots of sets for kids to take photos in and just play, I saw the Ghostbusters car and the Supernatural car (Baby) over that way too.

Lastly, I would say other than missing out on panels. Day one was a success at Rose City Comic Con, and I can’t wait for day two to start in just a few short hours!
