Thanks to Dark Horse for providing a copy for review.
The artwork and plot for Count Crowley pulled me in, and made me want to read it right away. We quickly learn our main character is an alcoholic, rude, and extremely unhappy that she’s stuck in her dead end hometown. By the way, this main character is Jerri, who works at her parents TV station, which her brother now runs. Her brother who also had to fire her for being a bit too much of a pissed off drunk during her interview with a local crook, and of course talking shit about the town on TV… As you can probably tell, not Jerri’s finest moment.
Now stuck in a job no one wants to fill for a missing coworker, also a person who no one seems to care all that much about… Jerri is able to be herself, rude and drunk on this “Count Crowley” hosting gig. Reading how the audience reacts to her attitude, is great. Either they love her or hate her in a very outraged manner too.
I can say that Jerri’s pretty much terrible when it comes to life, along with makeup for Count Crowley, and of course the attack of the wolf-man fan. Everything that happens in the issue made for a great story plot, and I for one can say I can’t wait to read more of the four part series. Also, I’m digging the Halloween vibes and Jerri just speaking her mind. Although, I‘m mostly here to find out how these paranormal beings fit into the Count Crowley show, and if Jerri’s parents know about (before they passed) what was going on after the show…
COUNT CROWLEY: RELUCTANT MIDNIGHT MONSTER HUNTER #1 will be released on October 23rd.
