This week was a busy one for Marvel news, especially news from their mutant side of the comic book universe, as well as an announcement on a large crossover event.
The first bit of news this week is that writer Greg Pak will team up with artists Ario Anindito and Guiu Villanova for a 3 issue mini-series titled HULKVERINES.
The series will see Hulk and Wolverine team up to go after Weapon H when the first issue hits shelves on February 20th, 2019.
Next up was the news that the first mutant title Marvel released back in the 1960’s will return as an ongoing series.
UNCANNY X-MEN will see writers including such notable names as Ed Brisson, Kelly Thompson, and Matthew Rosenberg, and artists including Mahmud Asrar, R.B. Silva, Yildiray Cinar, Elizabeth Torque, Leinil Francis Yu, Pere Perez, and Giuseppe Camuncoli working on a 10-part weekly series.
The first issue of the series is now available.
Marvel also released a preview of the cover art for the 11th issue of Uncanny X-Men with no further details aside from the word “Devastation”.
The artwork shows a visibly distraught Cyclops in the ruins of the Xavier Institute.
What could have done this? Guess we will find out when the issue hits shelves in February from writer Matthew Rosenberg and artist Salvador Larroca.
A few hours after the cover art above was released, the cover art for issue #12 was sent out without any details except a quote from Matthew Rosenberg “This is the fight to save mutantkind, the fight to restore their legacy, and this is the fight for their lives. This is forever.”
The issue will also be released in February 2019 from the team of Rosenberg and Larocca.
While the news from Marvel was filled with mutant related tidbits, none of them were as noteworthy as the announcement of the new creative team for DAREDEVIL.
On February 6th, the new Daredevil series will kick off from writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto, with cover art from Julian Totino Tedesco.
The series will pick after the terrific run from Charles Soule, which concluded with the Death of Daredevil story arc.
On Friday it was announced that Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman and Matthew Wilson will be the creative team behind a new 3 month 6 issue mini series titled WAR OF THE REALMS.
The story will feature most of the Marvel Universe from a storyline that Jason Aaron had been building from his 80+ issue run on MIGHTY THOR.
“I have been building towards WAR OF THE REALMS for the entire duration of my Thor run. So we’re talking six years and 80-something issues and counting,”- Jason Aaron
To promote the series Marvel released a piece of promo art from Wilson and Dauterman which features 20+ characters, including Captain America riding Aragorn.
…and lastly this week was another piece of news from the mutant side of Marvel.
Starting in February, Marvel will release the first of 6 different 5-part series heralding the AGE OF X-MAN. Each of the series will feature a different creative team and include such notable names like Ed Brisson, Tim Seeley, and more.
To promote the series, cover art for the first issues was also released, along with the full creative team announcements.
Full press releases for all of the news this week is below. All artwork courtesy of Marvel.
