Thanks to Mad Cave Studios for the review copy!
A new horror series from Mad Cave written by superstar Cullen Bunn with art from acclaimed horror artist Joe Bocardo, the talented Spanish colorist Manoli Martinez, and acclaimed Spanish writer/letterer El Torres. A group of siblings, all from different mothers, are brought together for the funeral of the dad that none of them have ever met. Upon realizing each of them is uniquely gifted they soon learn that it all had a cost and now the demons that wheeled and dealed with their late dad are back to collect some debts.
I loved this comic! Such a cool premise too! It feels a little like if you took Constantine and mixed it with some New Mutants or even Umbrella Academy. It’s a well written issue. Quickly paced and straight for the throat with its diabolical action sequences and tense dialogue. Nothing but the best as we’ve come to expect from Bunn. He just has a way of writing scenes so bad ass and larger than life. Especially when it comes to the horror genre. He’s really become a master at this horror game and there are times where this first issue is downright chilling! It’s gorgeously drawn and colored as well. The gore and carnage that unfolds before your eyes is pretty wicked indeed! We’re seeing some of the best work currently out there from this creative team. It’s clear based on their background they were each uniquely selected as the tone, colors, even the lettering are all top notch here. There are some really interesting characters as well but we just scratch the surface here with the siblings and their special gifts. I’m sure more of that will be brought to light as we move forward. Oh, and boy does this issue end with a jaw drop! These demons are not going to go quietly into the night. No chance of that! It’s clear this newfound sibling rivalry will have to pull together if they have any chance of seeing this mess through.
My rating – 10/10 Fantastic!
