Thanks to Mad Cave Studios for the review copy!

A new action adventure series from esteemed writer Curt Pines of It’s Only Teenage Wasteland and upcoming artist Kevin Castaniero of Grit tackles the world of cancel culture via a live streamed contest where bounty hunters called Cancellers are tasked with seeking out and eliminating those whom society have deemed as cancelled.

You’ve Been Cancelled #1 was a unique, original, and fun read. It’s a bit of action, a bit of humor, a little social commentary, and satire. It’s a refreshingly light story that’s not buried in complex narratives but still carries with it some obvious thoughts about the main theme which is cancel culture. Pires has crafted a tightly woven story here and then turns everything on its head and asks the question, what if the canceller is cancelled? Nobody saw that coming! It’s a unique twist to a story that feels like Running Man if it were turned into a full on reality TV show and just put on live in the middle of the city. I really thought Castaniero’s art was a lot of fun too. It’s rough around the edges with thick lines and details, and it lends perfectly to the type of story being told here with its futuristic, cityscape vibes, and punk appeal. It almost feels like a throwback to the late 80’s or early 90’s. I kept getting Escape from L.A. vibes and wasn’t upset about it.  As a whole, I just thought the first issue was a lot of fun. I look forward to seeing what Pires and company has in store for us in the next issue!

My rating 8/10 Great!
