One of the longest running magazines covering comic book news (as well as being the creators of their namesake awards for the comic book industry) is Tripwire Magazine. They recently celebrated their 30th anniversary (congrats Joel and team!) and just announced a new comic book (makes ya wonder, will it be eligible for their own awards…) 🙂
Currently being crowdfunded via Zoop is Sherlock Holmes and The Empire Builders – The Gene Genie Volume One by Joel Meadows and Andy Bennett. The title is set in an alternate world and will portray The World’s Greatest Detective as people have never seen him before. Synopsis on the title is below courtesy of their crowdfunding page.
When Watson leaves Holmes to help Crick unravel the DNA helix and finds himself in the employ of England’s most evil man, Holmes is forced to team up with an unlikely group to defeat this monstrous figure and return England to its status quo.
The stories were previously serialized in issues of Tripwire Magazine, but now will be collected for the first time in an 80+ page hardcover format with a dust jacket. Inside the hardcover readers will find 68 pages of story along with character sketches, script pages, and an interview that goes into depth on the series. All of this will be inside the book that will have cover art by two legends in the industry Mark Chiarello and Walt Simonson.
Backers can choose from either cover art version (signed or unsigned) or a digital version in PDF format.
