Second to last convention of the year! I’m sad to see it pass by so fast, but at the same time I am so ready for a few months break away from it all to work on cosplay for next year. GeekGirlCon is just one of those conventions that is a small and sweet one, you just can’t help but go to.
Later today I am heading to GeekGirlCon in Seattle, to see old friends again and hopefully snag some boba (since I didn’t when I went to Rose City Comic Con). Now, even though this is one the smaller side for a convention it is a really great one to take your kids to. I used to take my much younger sister to this convention back in the day (now she’s a college student, with too much to do), it was a great and low stakes convention to bond with her. It’s also really great that GeekGirl has so many fun interactive activities for kids to be distracted by, mainly their DIY science zone. So many stations for kids to stop by and learn new things. I know after my sister stopped going with me I still stopped by the DIY zones to check them out (they are pretty cool) and learn.
The panels I saw on the schedule for this year look pretty cool and there seems to be some great guests lined up as well, it honestly feels like the perfect combination for this convention. I’m already excited to head over there this morning and check out all the cool panels and see all the booths in the exhibitor hall (I love seeing my friends there!). The biggest thing I want to make sure I make it to today is the meet up for YouTubers, podcasters and so on. Since I host a podcast with my bestie, and we really want to grow and reach more people. I think it’s a great way to meet others in the same circle and get some tips and tricks, and you know network with other podcasters.
There are also a lot of panels for other networking, creating tabletop games, and breaking into industries in the geek world. Very empowering, and even though I’m not very interested in making my own tabletop game, I still want to check these out because they sound very cool. Obviously, there are a few panels on cosplay (I have to go to these), I have a few friends who are on some of the panels and I can’t wait to see them. There is also the cosplay contest this afternoon too, and lots of panels on writing today and tomorrow too. I’ve always had an interest in writing (I mean duh, I love writing for this website), but taking it to another level and trying my hand at writing a book would be cool. I also think these panels will be very useful and fun with how many authors are featured at the convention this year.
Like most conventions this year, I’m still not sure who I will be cosplaying. I had too much going on leading up to the convention, so not really any time to plan or get ready. Even as I’m writing this, I’m looking through cosplay photos I have of different cosplays trying to pick some that would be great for today. I have one thing in mind that I haven’t done this version of at a convention yet…but, now the weather is trying to give us a few more very hot days before taking the jump straight into fall/winter. So, I am at a loss (insert laughing, crying emoji here). No matter what I pick though, I know GeekGirlCon will be a blast and I look forward to updating you all on it over the weekend!
